Paul Sulisz, CEO of Biarri Networks, announced today a pilot project in cooperation with Australian Spatial Analytics (ASA), a not-for-profit organization that provides employment for young adults on the autism spectrum. Biarri is the internationally-known telecom engineering company specializing in data-driven broadband network design and deployment. The Biarri/ASA pilot project will run through December with three individuals who will work alongside Biarri’s network design team.
ASA employs neurologically-diverse adults between 18-30 years old, and provides them with training for various GIS mapping systems. ASA also provides autism awareness training and ongoing support for companies working with the young adults.
Sulisz says the pilot’s goal is to explore a partnership between ASA and Biarri Networks as a means to scale the network design team, while providing opportunity for the young adults at ASA. “We are always seeking ways to make a positive impact in the communities we serve; this is one of those terrific opportunities.”
Securing a satisfying job is difficult for anyone, but for individuals on the autism spectrum, it’s even more challenging. According to MarketWatch and the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 34% of college grads in Australia and a whopping 85% in the United States who are on the autism spectrum are unemployed. This is because it is often more difficult for individuals who are neurologically diverse to communicate, build relationships, and navigate social interactions. Yet these individuals often possess superior attention to detail, have greater focus, observation skills, ability to retain facts, and great in-depth knowledge in their areas of interest.
